Our History
Welcome to First State Bank of Sauk Centre, your downtown community bank since 1880! With offices in Sauk Centre and downtown Minneapolis, we are dedicated to being a leading financial institution for the communities that we serve!
Our history began on August 31, 1880, when Lucas Kells and Solomon Pendergast formed a co-partnership called “The Bank of Sauk Centre” for the purpose of general banking, discount and loans, collection exchange and insurance. They felt that what the town needed was a bank to serve the needs of the people of the community. Doors opened for business on September 1, 1880 and their concept of dedicated services provided a first-class banking house for customers.
A legislative enactment in 1908 required that all banks incorporate either as a State or National Bank. After careful consideration, the partners decided to incorporate as a State Bank and changed the name to “First State Bank of Sauk Centre”.

The bank continued to grow in 2015 when a branch was opened in downtown Minneapolis. This greatly expanded the number of communities we are able to serve and brought the community banking experience to the Twin Cities!
Today’s busy lifestyle does not always allow us to make trips into the bank. Luckily, advances in technology have streamlined some banking experiences and have truly put it in the hands of the customer. Our e-banking consists of both Online and Mobile banking which enable you to conveniently access and manage your accounts anytime and anywhere. With Mobile Capture (for personal accounts) and Remote Deposit Capture (for business accounts), you can now deposit checks from the convenience of your home or office!
